The size specified in calls to the database manager always refers to the logical size, not to the byte count. As an example, consider a dataset that has been defined as complex by requesting 30 complex numbers. 60 physical words will then effectively be transferred, for each complex number both the real and the imaginary part. For datasets of unspecified type it is assumed that the word count refers to the number of single precision (= physical) words.
